Info for Preparing and Running the 23rd Great Wall of China Marathon
on May 1st,2024(March

1.
Easy Flights and Visa to China:
International flight connections between China and various
destinations worldwide are expanding every week. For instance,
starting from March 31, 2024, Air China will introduce new flights
connecting Beijing to Stockholm, Budapest, Athens, Geneva, and
Barcelona. Additionally, as of April 1st, Air China will increase
its flights between Beijing and Vienna as well as Copenhagen.
Furthermore, beginning April 2nd, Hainan Airlines will increase its
flights between Beijing and Dublin. Moreover, from April 16 onwards,
there will be additional flights connecting Beijing to Riyadh.
Starting from March 14, 2024, individuals from Switzerland, Ireland,
France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Malaysia, Thailand,
Singapore, Brunei, Hungary, Australia, Belgium, and Luxembourg have
the privilege to travel to China without the need for a visa. It is
evident that the number of flights between these countries and China
is steadily rising. Notably, France is currently among the most
active nations in terms of expanding flight connections with China.
International flight hubs around China include Hong Kong, Tokyo, and
Singapore, as well as some cities in the Middle East. Consequently,
there is a higher number of transit flights connecting these cities
with China.
As of March 23, 2024, over 89 global airlines are facilitating
flights that connect various destinations worldwide with China.
further more, starting from March 31, 2024, there will be an
increase in the number of flights between China and the United
States, with a total of 100 flights scheduled
every week.
Visitors from 46 different countries have the opportunity to
participate in the 23rd Great Wall of China Marathon in Beijing on
May 1st, 2024, using a convenient 144-hour transit visa.
Additionally, international flight tickets to Beijing are reasonably
priced. And now you can also find the cheap flight options
connecting China with your country through Thailand and the
Philippines.
We have already assisted a considerable number of international
runners in obtaining their visas to China very smoothly for the 23rd
Great Wall of China Marathon on May 1st, 2024. We will continue to provide this
assistance to runners from all over the world till the end of April
2024.

Elderly Participants:
Those born in 1964 will reach the age of 60 this year, and during
the 23rd Great Wall of China Marathon on May 1st, 2024, special
considerations will be made for participants aged 60 and above,
including introducing age-based rankings for the first time! As of
now, the oldest participant registered for the 23rd Great Wall of
China Marathon on May 1st, 2024 is a 75-year-old from the USA!

Repeat Marathoners:
At least, 5 participants who completed the Great Wall of China
Marathon in 2023 will return for the 2024 race, with one of them
having completed the marathon over 10 times since 2011. These
dedicated runners will be honorably introduced on race day!
Additionally, some of them will continue on to participate in the
Roof of the World Marathon 2024, starting from May 2nd, 2024!

Event Schedule:
Registered participants can collect their race bags from 9AM to 6PM
on April 30, 2024, at the 4-star Mercure Hotel Beijing Zhongguancun.
Limousine buses will depart from the official hotel at 5:30AM on May
1st, 2024, transporting all registered runners and spectators to the
Great Wall. The buses are expected to arrive at the Great Wall
around 7AM, where participants can store their belongings, change
clothes, warm up, and prepare for the 23rd Great Wall of China
Marathon 2024, which will commence at 8AM on May 1st, 2024. After
the race, the buses will transport all runners and spectators back
to the official hotel. Starting this month, the 5-star Hotel Nikko
New Century Beijing has been added as a new official hotel, and
transportation arrangements are being made for participants staying
overnight at this hotel. The distance between the two official
hotels is less than 2K.

5.How
to choose your distance to run?
When deciding on the distance to run, it is important to consider
your normal marathon time.
1)Marathon:
For instance, if you typically finish a marathon in 4 hours, it may
take you 7 hours or more to complete. The fastest runners usually
finish the marathon in over 5 hours, with an estimated normal
marathon time of around 2 hours and 30 minutes to 3 hours. The
average finishing time for a marathon is 7 hours and 30 minutes.
2)Half marathon:
If your normal marathon time exceeds 6 hours, it is recommended to
opt for a half marathon instead, where the average finishing time is
around 4 hours.
3)10K and 5K:
For 10K races, the average time is 2 hours and 30 minutes, while 5K
races have an average finishing time of 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Regardless of the distance chosen, there is a 10-hour time limit for
all runners. Some participants may not be concerned with their
finishing time and prefer to run at their own pace, and taking
beautiful photos along the way.
6.Course Map and Elevation:
In the past 22 years,we have already used the 6 different sections
of the Great Wall for the Great Wall of China Marathon on May
1st,this year,we still use the Great Wall that we used at the Great
Wall of China Marathon 2018-Autumn,and Here is the basic information
we released in 2018 that you need to know and prepare for the 23rd
Great Wall of China Marathon on May 1st,2024.
